I finally extended XExternalEditor to version 0.8.
It now includes support for the type 'edit text'.
It is the feature of the 'external edit' that lets you edit wiki text in an external program. I.e. notepad++

As of today my XExternalEditor was downloaded 400 times since it has moved to Sourceforge.net. That was two months ago.
Go on try it yourself and edit a file that was uploaded to a MediaWiki via the the external edit feature.
